We had long been exploring the possibility of developing indigo-dyed products, and what we wanted to prioritize was creating products in Nara, just like we do with our socks, by meeting with artisans face-to-face and engaging in dialogue with them throughout the manufacturing process. It was during the process when we came across INDIGO CLASSIC, an indigo dyeing atelier in Nara that handles everything from cultivating indigo plants to making sukumo (indigo dye paste) and dyeing the indigo dyes themselves. This first collaboration project is themed around ‘indigo dyeing x wool.’ Based on the style of ROTOTO's classics, R1110COTTON WAFFLE CREW SOCKS, the material used is a blend of recycled wool and recycled cotton yarn. Each pair of socks is hand-dyed by skilled artisans, and the appeal lies in the deep colors and appearances unique to natural indigo dye.
